She Shouldn’t Have Been Able To Walk

She shouldn’t have been able to walk. Her blood pressure was incredibly high and she should have been in the ER. But she couldn’t afford the hospital. And even if she could, they probably would not have been able to help her. Hospitals in Haiti, the few that are still open, are severely understaffed and under supplied. Its doubtful they would have had the medication she needed.

She shouldn’t have been able to walk. But she did. She walked right into the Chanje Movement pop up medical clinic in northern Haiti. She was swollen, exhausted, and just did not feel well. It it took just a few minutes for Dr. L to diagnose the problem. Her blood pressure was 220/120. It was a miracle she hadn’t had a stroke. The doctor immediately gave her a dose of blood pressure meds and then asked her to wait in the shade. He re checked her about an hour later, relieved to see that the blood pressure had come down.

She was able to walk home. She was given comfort and temporary relief from her illness. It was an honor and a blessing to be able to help her. But eventually, the medication will run out. And then what will she do?

Chanje Movement (a ministry of The Global Mission) exists to bring a hope and a future through community transformation. We hope to continue doing pop up clinics and eventually set up a permanent clinic so that Haitians can regularly get the care they need to stay healthy and build a better life. We are grateful for your partnership in helping us make long lasting and real change in Haiti.
