A Future Beyond The Bracelet

If you were a church kid in the nineties, these colored bracelets picutred below probably look familiar to you. I remember making a beaded version every summer at VBS. They’re Gospel bracelets, each has 6 colors and each color represents a different part of the Gospel story. It’s a really simple and concrete way to explain to children what salvation is and why they need it.

We brought hundreds of these bracelets with us to Haiti over the summer and passed them out to all the kids that came to sports camp. After lunch, we gathered them all up and one of the mission team members, Joel, shared his testimony and the Gospel with the help of the bracelets. The kids listened with rapt attention, even yelling “boo” when Joel talked about sin.

At the end of the day, Dave asked the kids if any of them wanted to accept Jesus in their heart, as their Savior for their sin.* Dozens of kids shot up their hands, clearly moved by the Gospel story they had heard earlier.

Jesus said “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

What a privilege to present the hope of the Gospel to so many kids and to see them respond with such eagerness, joy and love. This is the most powerful way we can empower Haitians to change their future, not just here on earth but for eternity. Please join us as we continue to pray for the who accepted Christ. We pray that they would be able to grow in their faith and that they would get connected to their local church where they can be discipled and learn more. We also pray for any unsaved family members that they would come to faith.

Thank you for partnering with us to bring the Gospel to Haiti.

*Dave made sure the children understood that they only have to accept Jesus into their heart to pay the penalty for their sins one time in their entire life. So if they were already Christians, they didn’t have to raise their hands. He also intentionally did the altar call at the end of the day, so that the children didn’t get confused and think that accepting Jesus was required to participate in sports camp. Dave, the TGM team, and our volunteers are all very careful to present the Gospel in a way without pressure and without strings attached.
